Description
Subdued, yet elegant. Filamatrix Matte PLA is perfect for those times when you want a print to look less like plastic and more like something milled by a craftsman. Based on our standard PLA formula, Matte PLA prints smoothly and reliably. It adheres to a variety of build surfaces and does not require a heated bed.
The additional images above show the low specular reflection properties of Matte PLA. The disc on the left is Filamatrix Matte PLA while the one on the right is our regular PLA.
Matte PLA printer filament excels at prototyping applications and parts that do not require high physical or thermal properties, but it is slightly more brittle than standard PLA. If you have parts that won’t see repeat or heavy-duty use but need to look good, Matte PLA should be on your short list of filaments.

TIPS FOR OPTIMAL PRINTING
- While a heated bed is not required for printing, starting around 60 °C may give better results.
- PLA adheres to a variety of build surfaces (glass, PEI, etc.).
- Slightly more brittle than PLA.
A FEW WORDS ABOUT DRYING
- All 3D printer filaments are at least somewhat prone to absorbing water (hydroscopic)
- PLA is slow to absorb moisture so it may not be immediately noticeable
- Indications of moisture problems include popping or spitting when printing and stringy prints
- Drying may be done in a dedicated filament dryer, oven, or food dehydrator
- For casual to moderate printers we recommend this product (Opens in new window. No compensation is received.)
- For PLA, dry six hours at 50° C (120° F)
