PAHT Nylon Hydrophobic Filament — Moisture-Resistant Nylon, Made in USA
Engineered to solve nylon's biggest weakness. Filamatrix's Nylon Hydrophobic (PAHT — Polyamide High Temperature) is an unfilled nylon-based filament that absorbs moisture at
less than one-fourth the rate of standard PA6, and when it does absorb moisture, it affects print quality and physical properties far less than conventional nylons. Add in minimal warping and a
service temperature of 160°C, and you have a high temperature nylon filament that's as practical to print as it is durable in the field. Need higher stiffness and strength? See our
Nylon CF Hydrophobic (PAHT-CF).
Why Choose PAHT Over Standard Nylon?
-
4x Lower Moisture Absorption — Dramatically fewer print failures from ambient humidity
-
Minimal Warping — Easier bed adhesion and better dimensional accuracy than PA6
-
High Temperature Resistance — 160°C service temperature with an HDT of 90°C at 1.82 MPa (264 psi), maintaining performance under higher loads where most nylons fall short
-
High-Heat Rated Spool — Built to withstand drying temperatures, unlike standard spools that can warp in a filament dryer or oven
-
Tight Diameter and Ovality — 3-axis filament measurement for consistent extrusion, fewer jams and clogs
-
Made in USA — Designed by engineers with 50+ years of plastic extrusion experience
Applications That Benefit from PAHT Nylon Hydrophobic:
-
Automotive & Under-Hood Parts — Heat and chemical resistant housings and brackets
-
Industrial Fixtures & Tooling — Durable jigs and fixtures in humid shop environments
-
Outdoor & Marine Components — Functional parts exposed to humidity, rain, or salt air
-
Enclosures & Electronics Housings — Protection in variable temperature and moisture conditions
-
Functional Prototypes — Realistic mechanical properties for engineering validation

Tips for Optimal Printing:
- A variety of build surfaces (glass, Garolite, PEI, etc.) may be used.
- Nylon is moisture sensitive; measures should be taken to keep the filament dry.
- Generally, slower speeds, larger nozzles, and thicker layers are recommended as a starting point, but feel free to experiment with other settings.
A Few Words About Drying:
- All 3D printer filaments are at least somewhat prone to absorbing water (hygroscopic)
- Nylon Hydrophobic (PAHT) absorbs moisture much slower than standard nylon — but it's not immune
- The effects of moisture may take days or weeks to become noticeable after exposure to room conditions
- Indications of moisture problems include popping or spitting when printing and stringy prints
- Drying may be done in a dedicated filament dryer, oven, or food dehydrator
- For Nylon Hydrophobic, dry six to twelve hours at 90°C (194°F)
